Laundry Systems I’d Recreate in Any Home

In my post The Small Laundry Room Systems That Changed Our Daily Life, I shared that while I’m excited to renovate our “new” 1888-built house, I recently realized something unexpected:

I genuinely love our current laundry room — and I don’t want to leave it.

Then I realized something even more important:

I can recreate the same feeling in our new home with a few simple systems, practical products, and thoughtful design choices.

These are the laundry products I’d immediately buy again because they truly made our daily life easier as busy parents.

Hanging Dry Rack

I was completely Instagram-influenced to buy this wall-mounted drying rack a few years ago — and somehow it became one of the most useful things in our house.

Anyone who has seen our laundry room comments on it and asks where I got it.

It’s:

  • aesthetic
  • functional
  • efficient for small spaces

We use it daily for:

  • swimsuits
  • delicate clothing
  • dance outfits
  • anything that shouldn’t go in the dryer

This will absolutely be installed in our new laundry room.

Sneaker Cleaning Bags

These are my latest obsession.

My daughters are 3 and 5, which means muddy shoes are basically part of our lifestyle at this point.

All I have to do is:

  • put the dirty sneakers in the bags
  • toss them into the washing machine
  • let them air dry

Do the shoes come out looking perfectly brand new?

No.

But they look SO much cleaner — and these bags have probably saved me close to $100 already because I’m not constantly replacing worn-out sneakers.

Folding Counter / Laundry Deck

When my husband renovated our laundry room, we took a trip to Lowe’s and picked out a slab of Formica for a folding counter above the washer and dryer.

He installed it within a few hours, and I’ve used it every single day since.

Having one dedicated space to:

  • fold
  • sort
  • organize
  • stack baskets

makes laundry feel so much less chaotic.

He also installed it at the perfect height so our backs weren’t killing us while folding endless piles of laundry.

This setup is completely non-negotiable in our future laundry room.

My Favorite “Hip Hugger” Laundry Baskets

As a petite person, these laundry baskets have been a game changer.

They’re shaped to comfortably rest on your hip while carrying laundry up and down stairs — which makes a bigger difference than I ever expected.

I also love that they:

  • hold a lot
  • still feel lightweight
  • fit perfectly underneath our folding counter when not in use

Functional storage that actually fits the space matters so much in smaller laundry rooms.

Stain Removers I Always Keep On Hand

During the newborn and infant stage, I swore by Dreft stain remover for:

  • milk stains
  • formula stains
  • pureed food disasters

Now that my girls are older, I mostly use Miss Mouth’s Messy Eater Stain Remover — and it has genuinely saved countless clothing items from the rag pile.

From:

  • grass stains
  • spaghetti sauce
  • grease
  • playground messes

this stuff works incredibly well.

And when stains are especially stubborn?

I still use my old-school trick:

  • Dawn dish soap directly on the stain
  • agitate gently
  • toss it into the wash

Works every time.

Mesh Garment Bags

These are one of those inexpensive purchases that end up being surprisingly essential.

I use them constantly for:

  • lingerie
  • baby socks
  • silk pillowcases
  • dance tights
  • swimsuits

They keep delicate items protected and prevent tiny things from disappearing into the washing machine abyss.

You’ll use them far more often than you think you will.

Final Thoughts

As we prepare to renovate our next home, I’ve realized that what I truly love isn’t necessarily the laundry room itself.

It’s the systems.

The thoughtful little setups and products that make daily life feel smoother, calmer, and more manageable for our family.

And thankfully, those are the easiest things to recreate.
